Domaine Usseglio is a family business, founded in 1948, Francis Usseglio the grandfather, left Italy to come and work in Châteauneuf-du-pape. Today it covers 39 hectares, known to make a traditional Châteauneuf-du-Pape red. Half of their vines are over 65 years old, the other 40. Yields are very low, around 20 to 25 hectolitres per hectare, depending on the vintage. The grapes are always picked by hand and sorted selectively. The result is powerful, round wines with pronounced aromas of red fruit and spices.
There's good wine in a bottle, but with Châteauneuf du Pape there's also something from the past, which sleeps, rests and improves.
